How We Built a Shopify ↔ SAP HANA Middleware for A1 Chips and Exports India Pvt Ltd

The Problem: Two Powerful Systems. Zero Conversation.

A1 Chips and Exports India Pvt Ltd runs a high-volume food manufacturing and export operation. Their commerce front-end runs on Shopify developed by Codified Commerce. Their enterprise backend — inventory, procurement, financials, and fulfillment — runs on SAP HANA.

The gap between the two was costing them time, accuracy, and operational efficiency. Orders placed on Shopify had to be manually re-entered into SAP HANA. Inventory updates in SAP HANA never reflected in real time on the Shopify storefront. Customer records lived in two separate silos. Fulfillment data was reconciled manually at end of day.

The ask was clear: make these two systems talk to each other — automatically, reliably, and in real time.

The Solution: Codified Commerce System Integrator

We designed and developed Codified Commerce System Integrator — a custom Shopify embedded application built using our proprietary Codified Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) framework, powered by Shopify Sidekick AI Expert for execution intelligence.

This is not an off-the-shelf connector. It is a purpose-built enterprise middleware layer — architected specifically for the Shopify ↔ SAP HANA data model gap.

How We Built It

Step 1 — Mapping the Data Architecture

The first challenge in any Shopify ↔ SAP HANA integration is the structural mismatch. Shopify organises commerce data around products, variants, orders, customers, and fulfillments. SAP HANA organises enterprise data around materials, business partners, sales documents, delivery notes, and financial postings.

We built a Data Transformation & Mapping Layer that intelligently translates between these two schemas — without requiring manual field mapping by the client's IT team.

Step 2 — Real-Time Sync via Shopify Webhooks

For event-driven synchronisation, we leveraged Shopify's Webhook infrastructure. Every key commerce event — a new order placed, an inventory level updated, a customer record modified — triggers an instant data push to SAP HANA via the SAP HANA REST/OData API.

This eliminates the latency of batch-only approaches and ensures SAP HANA always reflects the current state of the Shopify store.

Step 3 — Scheduled Batch Sync

For bulk reconciliation — end-of-day stock counts, large product catalogue updates, historical order imports — we built a configurable scheduled batch sync engine using Shopify's Bulk Operations API. This handles high-volume data transfers without impacting storefront performance.

Step 4 — Error Handling & Retry Logic

Enterprise integrations fail. Networks drop. APIs timeout. We built automatic retry mechanisms with exponential backoff — ensuring no data is lost during transient failures. Every failed sync attempt is logged with full error context for rapid troubleshooting.

Step 5 — Sync Dashboard Inside Shopify Admin

The entire integration is monitored from an embedded Shopify admin dashboard — real-time sync status, last sync timestamps, error alerts, and full sync history. A1 Chips' operations team can see exactly what is syncing, when, and whether any intervention is needed — without leaving Shopify.

Step 6 — Secure SAP HANA Configuration Panel

SAP HANA credentials — host, port, database name, username, and password — are entered directly by A1 Chips' IT Admin inside the app's secure configuration panel. Credentials are stored encrypted, never exposed in plain text, and never accessible to Codified Commerce Bootcamp. The client retains full control of their enterprise credentials at all times.

Data Entities Synced — Bidirectionally

Orders, Products, Inventory, Customers, and Fulfillment — all fully bidirectional between Shopify and SAP HANA.

The CAT Framework Advantage

What makes Codified Commerce System Integrator different from generic integration tools is the Codified Algorithmic Thinking approach underneath it.

CAT does not build integrations as one-time scripts. It builds them as structured, auditable, repeatable execution systems — where every sync event follows a defined algorithm, every failure triggers a defined response, and every configuration change is logged with a timestamp and user attribution.

This is what makes the integration enterprise-ready — not just functional, but governable, auditable, and scalable as A1 Chips grows.

What Changes for A1 Chips

✅ Zero manual data entry between Shopify and SAP HANA
✅ Real-time inventory accuracy across both platforms
✅ Orders flow automatically into SAP HANA for processing
✅ Customer data stays consistent — no duplicate records
✅ Fulfillment updates reflect instantly on the Shopify storefront
✅ Full audit trail for compliance and internal governance

Timeline

From briefing to deployment: 1 working day.

This is the speed that the CAT framework enables — not because corners are cut, but because the architecture is pre-defined, the algorithms are codified, and the execution is Sidekick AI-assisted.

A Note on Security

"You retain full control of your SAP HANA credentials at all times. Codified Commerce Bootcamp will never have access to your SAP HANA login details. Our role is to build and maintain the integration layer — your team securely configures the connection directly within the app."

All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Credentials are encrypted at rest. Access to the configuration panel is restricted to authorised Shopify Admin users only.

Built by Codified Commerce Bootcamp | Powered by Codified Algorithmic Thinking

Codified Commerce Bootcamp develops custom Shopify applications for enterprise clients who need more than what the Shopify App Store offers. If your business runs on Shopify and an enterprise backend — SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or any other — and you need a reliable, secure, auditable integration layer, we build it.
