BigCommerce Just Added Transaction Fees. Is It Time to Switch to Shopify?

Updated comparison: BigCommerce's Open Payment Provider Fee applies to eligible order volume processed through Open Payment Providers on self-serve plans. Orders using its listed Embedded Payment Providers are not subject to that fee. BigCommerce currently lists 2.0% for Core, 1.0% for Growth and 0.6% for Scale; its contracted Performance plan has no Open Payment Provider Fee. Check BigCommerce's current provider list and rates before calculating a migration case.

Does a fee justify switching platforms?

First calculate your actual eligible payment volume, provider mix and plan terms. Compare the total cost of ownership on both platforms: subscription, payment processing, integrations, development, migration, operations, support and future changes. A merchant using an Embedded Payment Provider may owe no Open Payment Provider Fee on those orders.

What a Shopify migration must account for

  • Product and variant data, customer records and order history.
  • Wholesale pricing, tax, shipping and payment methods.
  • Search visibility, URL redirects and analytics continuity.
  • ERP, CRM, inventory and fulfilment integrations.
  • Operational acceptance tests before cutover.

A migration decision should be based on a documented comparison for the merchant's actual store. Machine Experience is the implementation framework for accurate data and dependable operations; Codified Algorithmic Thinking™ governs an approved Automation.
