When a merchant sees low conversion or unclear AI shopping engagement, it is tempting to change product copy, checkout, agent instructions and advertising simultaneously. That makes the outcome difficult to interpret. Agentic CRO works better when changes follow a specific evidence-led hypothesis and are validated one at a time where feasible.
What each CAT AI capability contributes
Machine Experience (MX) checks whether product, pricing, availability and policies are comprehensible to shoppers and eligible agents. Moving Target (MT) examines available changes in buyer questions, behavior, market conditions and conversion evidence. Next Product Move (NPM) weighs the next useful product, offer, journey or campaign action. Expert Judgment reviews accuracy, authorization, implementation risks and acceptance conditions.
A practical prioritization method
- Define the failure: write the friction in observable language, not as a vague wish to “improve UX.”
- Locate the journey: determine whether the problem occurs before discovery, during agent recommendation, on the storefront or after checkout.
- Confirm evidence: collect trustworthy facts from the merchant's catalog, permitted customer questions, order outcomes or analytics.
- Identify the root-cause candidate: distinguish product mismatch, missing information, transaction constraints and measurement limitations.
- Choose the feasible action: assess expected decision value, verification cost, approval requirements and execution guardrails.
- Validate: recheck the affected experience and report what the evidence can and cannot establish.
Two hypotheses can have very different value
“Change a button from blue to orange” is weak when no evidence points to contrast or usability problems. “Fix the unavailable variant repeatedly recommended for a defined shopper need” has a clearer factual basis and can be evaluated through accuracy checks and later buying outcomes. If the latter is the true problem, cosmetic changes could distract from it.
How this relates to earlier concepts
Codified Commerce has also discussed Agent Recommendation Optimization and Product-Intent Fit. These can inform specific aspects of Agentic CRO: suitability before a visit and relevant recommendation quality. Agentic CRO is the broader integrated buying-outcome perspective, not a promise that agents autonomously run unlimited experiments.
