What is available now

As of October 2026, Shopify has announced optional UCP location search and lookup for eligible physical storefronts, plus separate catalog, cart, checkout and buyer-consent capabilities. Compatibility and negotiation still matter.

What is not yet supported

Location discovery is not a reservation system, real-time stock guarantee or location-selected pickup checkout. Opening hours and amenities are not part of the current announced location filtering capability. Any prediction about these features must be labeled as a possibility, not a roadmap commitment.

Signals to monitor

Monitor Shopify's developer changelog, UCP capability specifications, storefront MCP documentation, POS extensions, inventory APIs and Next Gen Events. Pay attention to location filters, fulfillment handoff, permissions, reliability and breaking changes.

Where professional services remain valuable

Basic discovery plumbing may become easier and less differentiated. Merchants still need expertise in product truth, location eligibility, inventory reconciliation, staff workflows, enterprise systems, security and measurement. These are practical service hypotheses rather than measured market demand.

A disciplined roadmap

Begin with one location and a narrow SKU set; test customer answers, staff handoff and operational data; document the baseline; scale only after outcomes and integration reliability justify expansion. Use Moving Target to revisit assumptions as Shopify releases evolve.

How this connects to CAT AI

Machine Experience validates commerce data, storefronts and operational interfaces. Moving Target tracks changing platform capabilities; Next Product Move prioritizes evidence-based improvements; and Contextual Conversions assesses buying context. Expert Judgment oversees approved execution. These are interconnected frameworks, not separate products. The three CAT AI business applications—Shopify Agentic Advertising, Shopify Agentic Sales and Shopify Agentic Operations—are interconnected, not separately purchased packages. Product-Market Fit remains a cross-cutting capability.
